Our Work
The National Council of Jewish Women is a volunteer organization that has been at the forefront of social change for over a century — championing the needs of women, children, and families — while courageously taking a progressive stance on such issues as child welfare, women’s rights, and reproductive freedom. The local San Antonio section works throughout the year on programs vital to furthering our political, social, and fundraising requirements. We are always looking for equality-minded women who would like to get involved in advocacy, education, or community service.
Advocacy
We define advocacy programs as structured, resourced initiatives that are led by NCJW-SA and aimed at realizing specific social change objectives. We identify what needs to change, what opportunities for influence we see or seek to create, and what we can do to achieve our objectives. During the course of a program, we bring together a diversity of experts and Texas residents in listening and learning series events, and we produce position paper(s) for direct government engagement. Our program year runs from July until June, and programs may be multi-year. Our current programs include Immigration Integrity,Reproductive Freedom, Promoting and Protecting the Voter, Separation of Church and State, and Countering Book Banning.
Key to our work in advocacy is direct engagement with our San Antonio Mayor and City Council, the Bexar County Commissioners Court, city and county government executives, and our Texas lawmakers. Our direct government engagements serve as events that both drive and are shaped by our advocacy programs and alliances.
We also advance programs through alliances with like-minded organizations seeking change that we endorse.
Education
We sponsor events aimed at increasing understanding of the issues that women, children, and families face as well as the community resources that are available to assist.
Community Service
NCJW-SA community service reflects our overall mission of supporting and advocating for women, children, and families. We assist organizations that direct serve women, children, and families here in the San Antonio area.
